that time I made a mascot. and an explainer video.
It started with this li’l guy. He’s an Oodi, the imaginary-spark-of-creative-energy mascot of a start-up by the same name. He was already a spark in the mind of my clients, so I put on my illustrator hat and brought him to life. Along with a bunch of his friends
I kind of love getting the opportunity to work outside of my own personal style. And this was definitely one of those opportunities. I imagine it’s akin to what actors love about acting, getting to walk into another world and become someone different for a time. Anyways! The character design turned into some illustrations for their website and before I knew it I found myself animating an explainer video!
So a thing I learned: animating is HARD. Like intensely time-consuming and detail oriented. In the beginning it’s fun-hard. But once you’re like 5 or 6 scenes in, it gets hard-hard. Like “why does something else break every time I fix something” kind of hard. But I made it through! Watching this, there are a million things I’d like to change, but I’m also still hella proud because it was a TON of work, and I did everything except the sound design (for better and worse!). So enjoy…my first, and probably last foray into explainer video animation!
